To my knowledge, Google is currently the best search engine. It has the widest coverage of the web, it has smart logic to bring you the most relevant results, the search is simple and fast. Additionally, there are various options to specify your search if needed.

Amazon has the widest selection of books (and the prices are good, too!). You can search for music, electronics and other goods as well.
